Proposition 8, the California initiative that prevented same-sex couples from getting married, made national headlines this week. Hispanic candidates vie for national offices
Although U.S. Hispanics are increasingly represented in many state houses throughout the country – especially in California, Texas and Florida – they are still underrepresented in many national political categories. Congress currently has 28 Hispanic members in the House of Representatives and only three Hispanic senators. This year there are more than 36 Hispanics running for House seats, including 27 incumbents, and one Hispanic senatorial candidate.
